An ampoule, also known as a neck-bent breakable ampoule or injection vial, is a small, sealed glass bottle commonly used to store injectable medications, as well as vaccines and serums. Its capacity typically ranges from 1 ml to 20 ml.

Ampoules are made by firing glass tubes and are widely used for containing injectable preparations and high-purity chemicals that must be kept isolated from air. The ampoule’s tip is sealed using an open flame to create an airtight seal, and the neck of the ampoule is marked with a notch. When pressure is applied, the neck breaks at this notch, allowing the liquid medicine to be drawn out.

Before opening an ampoule, first use a grinding wheel to make a scratch around the neck of the ampoule. Then disinfect the neck. Hold the ampoule with the nipple pointing upward, ensuring that all the liquid medicine flows completely into the body of the ampoule. Finally, simply break off the neck at the marked point. For easy-break ampoules, the manufacturer has pre-cut a specific section near the nipple; simply break the nipple along this pre-marked line in the indicated direction.
